Social Protection" means public initiatives which provide income or consumption transfers to the poor, protect the vulnerable against livelihood risks and volatility, and enhance the human capital and rights of the marginalized with the overall objective of reducing the economic and social vulnerability of poor, vulnerable, and marginalized individuals and communities

SPD stands for Social Protection Department.

SPD was established on 18th May, 2022.

SPD is headed by a Secretary to the Government of Sindh who is an officer of PAS/EX-PCS/PSS of BS–20.

Currently, the Honorable Chief Minister Sindh holds the portfolio of the Minister-SPD.

1. Facilitate and support Sindh Social Protection Authority for coordination with Federal Government, Provincial Government's Line Departments, Divisional and District Administration in the Province.
2. Liaison with Donor Agencies with regard to Social Protection initiatives.
3. Integrate Sindh Social Protection Authority into the broader government spectrum.
4. Support and facilitate the functions of the Sindh Social Protection Authority for achieving the Social Protection Goals of the Government.
5. Deal with matters related to the Sindh Social Protection Authority.
6. Dispense services matters, except those entrusted to the Services, General Administration & Coordination Department.

SSPA stands for Sindh Social Protection Authority.

SSPA was set up on 20th December, 2022.

1. The Authority may perform such functions and exercise such powers as are necessary for carrying out the purposes of this Act.
2. Formulate social protection policies and programs aimed at vulnerable individuals and groups for alleviating poverty.
3. Coordinate and consolidate all public social protection and poverty alleviation initiatives in the province.
4. Approve the policy and mechanism for identifying the poor and the vulnerable.
5. Formulate criteria and mechanisms for allocation of resources.
6. Institute mechanisms for collecting data to create a registry of the poor and vulnerable.
7. Approve mechanisms and frameworks for data management and confidentiality.
8. Implement and manage social protection programs.
9. Establish a mechanism to measure and evaluate the efficacy of Social Protection plans.
10. Advise Government on social protection matters.
11. Review existing social protection programs.
12. Establish an efficient Grievance Redressal Mechanism.

SPD is the administrative department of SSPA, whereas SSPA is a body corporate which functions as per the provisions of the SSPA Act, 2022.

Sindh Social Protection Authority is governed under the SSPA Act-2022, headed by a Board led by the Honorable Chief Minister Sindh.

Sindh Social Protection Authority Act-2022 was passed in August 2022 by the Provincial Assembly of Sindh.

Honorable Chief Minister Sindh is the Head of the SSPA Board.
